We had the opportunity to complete a full exterior repaint in Beaverton, Oregon for a pair of wonderful homeowners who were as committed to quality as we are. This project required careful lead-safe handling of peeling paint, and a sharp, durable finish that’s ready to weather the Pacific Northwest elements.

Thorough Surface Prep with Lead Safety in Mind

Since the home was built before 1978, we followed EPA-certified lead-safe work practices to ensure the safety of the homeowners, our crew, and the surrounding environment. Scraping older homes demands extra care to contain dust and paint chips.

Here’s a breakdown of our lead-safe prep process:

• Site Containment & Protection: We masked off landscaping, decks, and hard surfaces, then laid down plastic sheeting to catch any debris. Areas were fully contained to control lead dust.
• Careful Scraping: Peeling and flaking paint was wet hand-scraped to limit airborne particles.
• Priming: All bare wood surfaces were primed first with Cover-Stain Oil-Based Primer, followed by PeelBond Primer for leveling and topcoat adhesion.
• Caulking: All joints, seams, and trim transitions were sealed using OSI Quad Max or Vulkem 116, depending on the substrate and exposure.

Once prep was complete, we applied a full coating system designed for performance and curb appeal.

• Paint Used: Miller Paint Acri-lite™—a premium exterior paint known for its color longevity and resistance to mildew and weathering and moisture resistance
• Siding Application: Sprayed with an airless sprayer for smooth, even coverage. In some areas, we back-rolled the first coat to better work the paint into textured siding.
• Trim and Detail Work: Painted using brush and roll techniques to maintain sharp edges and highlight the architectural details around windows, fascia, and doors.
