Victorian Exterior Repaint in Oregon City, OR:

Historic Charm Meets Modern Precision

At Premier Painting LLC, we’re passionate about preserving the unique character of every home we work on—especially when it comes to architecturally significant properties like this new-style Victorian home in Oregon City. This full exterior repaint project was a true showcase of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and collaboration with fantastic clients who were just as committed to excellence as we are.

Extensive Surface Preparation: The Foundation of a Flawless Finish

Victorian homes often feature intricate trim work and layered exterior elements that require meticulous prep to do the job right. This project was no exception.

  • We began with a full exterior assessment, followed by careful removal of old, failing caulking throughout the home.

  • All joints and seams were re-cut, cleaned, and re-caulked using matching high-performance caulking products to ensure a uniform finish and long-lasting seal.

  • Every surface was scraped and sanded to remove loose or flaking paint, and all bare wood was spot-primed for maximum adhesion.

  • On the back patio, we performed a two-step wash: first a bleach wash to remove organic buildup.

Replacing Trim with Custom-Milled Cedar

The Victorian design of this home demanded trim work that wasn’t just functional—but historically accurate. We partnered with McCoy’s Millwork to source custom-milled cedar trim to match the original detailing around the front porch columns.

  • We replaced deteriorated column trim and front-facing architectural details with precision-cut cedar pieces, maintaining the historic look while improving durability.

  • The new trim was primed and installed with care to blend seamlessly with the home’s original design.

This kind of detail work helps preserve the architectural integrity of the home while upgrading its protection against the elements.

Paint Application: Duration by Sherwin-Williams

For the exterior paint system, we chose Sherwin-Williams Duration Exterior Paint, known for its superior durability, mildew resistance, and long-lasting color retention.

  • Body: Applied using a spray application for smooth, consistent coverage across all siding surfaces

  • Trim & Accents: Painted by brush and roll to maintain sharp lines and avoid overspray on intricate moldings

Using this two-part approach ensured every surface was coated evenly, preserving the home’s texture while enhancing its historic appeal.

Safety & Strategy on Steep Roof Sections

This home included several areas where the siding ran tight to steeply pitched rooflines—especially near the upper gables.

  • Our crew exercised extreme caution in these areas, using roof anchors, ladders, and safety harnesses to access hard-to-reach places without compromising safety.

  • We took the time to properly prep, prime, and paint every elevation, no matter how challenging the access. These are the areas that often get skipped—but we do our best to achieve optimal coverage on these hard to reach areas.

Finishing Touch: Coating the Back Patio

Once the siding and trim were complete, we turned our attention to the rear concrete patio:

  • After the initial bleach and pressure wash, we performed a second clean just before coating to remove any remaining dust or residue.

  • We then applied one coat of H&C Concrete Coating, giving the patio a sleek, uniform finish that enhances the overall aesthetic of the home.

A True Statement Piece in the Neighborhood

What truly made this project memorable was working with such wonderful homeowners. Their trust, collaboration, and clear vision helped us bring out the full potential of this home. Now, the property stands out in the neighborhood and we have a new relationship for life!
