Full Exterior Painting & Staining Project in Oregon City:
Protecting a Home with Precision and Premium Products
At Premier Painting LLC, we recently completed a detailed exterior painting, staining, and clear coating project that showcased our ability to blend professional craftsmanship with long-lasting protection. This job involved a comprehensive surface prep and coating system for siding, trim, cedar shake, tongue-and-groove soffits, and even included the replacement of two exterior doors with durable, rot-resistant materials.
Thoughtful Door Replacement: Stopping Dry Rot Before It Starts
One of the first priorities on this project was replacing two older exterior doors—an essential upgrade for both function and protection.
- We installed new fiberglass and PVC door systems, eliminating the potential for future moisture intrusion and dry rot.
- These materials resist warping, swelling, and decay, making them ideal for Oregon’s wet winters.
- The clean, solid finish pairs well with the rest of the exterior coatings for a fully refreshed look.
Prep Process: The Key to a Flawless, Durable Finish
Like every project we take on, success starts with thorough surface preparation:
- Masking and Protection: All walkways, rooflines, windows, and landscaping were carefully masked off to protect from overspray.
- Power Washing: We pressure-washed all siding, with hand-washing used on delicate T&G soffits to prevent water intrusion.
- Cedar Shake Cleaning: Shakes were bleach-cleaned (with a safe dilution), soaked, and rinsed thoroughly before drying for 24–48 hours. This removed dirt and mildew while opening the grain for stain absorption.
- Scraping & Sanding: Any peeling paint was feathered smooth, and all bare wood—including nail heads and OSB—was spot-primed with Cover-Stain oil-based primer.
- Priming: We followed up with PeelBond Primer to level out aged surfaces and create a uniform base.
- Caulking: All gaps and joints were sealed using OSI Quad Max or Vulkem 116, both known for superior flexibility and adhesion.
- Minor Repairs: We replaced siding sections with T1-11 and reinforced trim areas where needed.
Exterior Coatings: A Complete System from Siding to Soffits
Once prepped, we applied a multi-coating system to ensure maximum durability and aesthetic appeal.
- Siding & Walls: Two coats of Miller Paint Evolution™ exterior paint were applied using airless spray, with back-rolling on T1-11 to work the paint into the grain and texture.
- Light fixture painting: the exterior light fixtures were primed and painted with premium spray paint for a proper bond and durable finish.
- Trim & Fascia: Painted using brush and roll for maximum control, clean lines, and smooth coverage. Garage doors were sprayed for a factory-like finish.
- Cedar Shake Staining: We used PPG ProLuxe (semi-transparent) applied by spray and back-brush, ensuring deep saturation and natural texture retention.
- T&G Soffits & Rafter Tails: These delicate surfaces were coated with ProLuxe clear water-based polyurethane, maintaining the wood’s natural look while sealing out moisture.
One of Our Favorite Color Combinations
The homeowner selected a rich, earthy color palette that felt perfectly suited to the natural tones of the cedar and the Pacific Northwest environment. The contrast between the body color, crisp trim, and clear-coated wood elements turned this into one of our favorite exterior combinations to date!
Thanks to a professional prep process, smart material choices, and a timeless color scheme, this home is now fully sealed, visually striking, and built to withstand the elements. From fiber-reinforced doors to deep wood grain staining, every detail was chosen for both style and performance.
